AID and its founding principles

The Association for India's Development (AID) came to being when a small group of graduate students at the University of Maryland in 1991, led by Dr. Ravi Kuchimanchi envisioned that interconnected problems needed interconnected solutions. It has since grown, but continues to be a largely volunteer-run movement committed to promoting sustainable, equitable, and just development in India. The guiding principles or the three pillars AID is based on are ‘Sangharsh’, ‘Seva’ and ‘Nirman’ meaning courage, commitment and change. AID helps put up a fight (through non-violent means) for a cause, promotes constructive/ developmental work and provides an opportunity to everyone to be of service to the community in a way that suits their interests and capabilities. AID initiates and supports the efforts of grassroots development organizations in various interconnected spheres such as education, livelihoods, protection of natural resources, agriculture, health, women's empowerment, and social justice.
